This is What it Takes to Be a Godly Mama Bear: Extolling the Virtue, Honor, & Nobility of Biblical Womanhood

This Mother’s Day, it is high time for moms everywhere to rise up, by the grace of God Almighty, and take their stand as “Godly Mama Bears” to do what it takes to champion biblical womanhood (alongside their husbands) and to protect their bear cubs, as it were, from pornographic predators, ideological wolves, and the diabolical falsehood that is devouring myriads of naïve boys & girls and young people far and wide.  Unfortunately, multitudes of women have fallen prey to the radical feminist spirit of this present evil age.  Author, Jennifer McBride, writes in “Queen of the Home”:

“In past generations, the role of wife and mother was viewed as a sacred calling.  The committed homemaker was seen as strong, capable, intelligent and irreplaceable.  She was regarded not only as a crucial part of the home, but as a foundational bulwark of society.  She was considered worthy of great honor, appreciation, and respect.”

“Sadly, much has changed.  Over the last century Biblical womanhood has been under extreme fire from radical feminists and Marxists.  In their attempts to annihilate the traditional, God-ordained family unit, they have rightly understood that one of their top strategies must be not only to attack and destroy strong manhood, but to remove women from their rightful sphere.”

“One of their most successful tactics has been to belittle and demean the role of the woman at home, passionately proclaiming that this is a worse-than-useless position and one to be eschewed at all costs.  Those whom they fail to convince to actually leave their homes are made to feel as though they are wasting their lives in mindless drudgery and that they are even a drain on society.”

Consider this [shocking statement from one of many prominent feminists & humanists]:

The chief thing is to get women to take part in socially productive labor, to liberate them from ‘domestic slavery,’ to free them from their stupefying and humiliating subjugation to the eternal drudgery of the kitchen and the nursery.  This struggle will be a long one, and it demands a radical reconstruction, both of social technique and of morale.  But it will end in the complete triumph of Communism.” – Vladimir Lenin, Intl. Working Women’s Day Speech, 1920 (first Soviet leader/dictator)

Tragically, multitudes of women have drunk deeply at feminism’s [& Marxism’s] well—often without quite realizing just what it was they were imbibing.  Though at times it is diluted and administered in more palatable forms than [the radical feminists & Marxists], the poison of this radical, anti-God, anti-family movement has permeated the thinking of the entire world—including Christendom—and the consequences have been devastating.”

“It is imperative that we plug our ears to the lies bombarding us and to fill our hearts, souls, and minds with the unchanging truth of God’s Holy Word.  It is the Light that illuminates our way; it is the Two-Edged Sword with which we fight our battles; and it is the firm Foundation on which we build the little kingdoms entrusted to us.  We must keep the Lord’s Standard ever before us as we “Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil.3:14).”

Although Feminism [& Marxism] continues her barrage against Biblical womanhood, we must refuse to heed her lies anymore.  Let us victoriously reclaim our thrones for the sake of our families, the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom, and the glory of God.”[1]

This is What it Takes to Be a Godly Mama Bear…

Virtue #1 – Godly Mama Bears Awe & Reverence/Worship GOD – Pr.1:7-9

  • “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck” (Pr.1:7-9 NKJV).

Virtue #3 – Godly Mama Bears Cultivate Faith in GOD’s Word – 2 Tim.1:5 cf. Rom.10:17

  • “When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (2 Tim.1:5 NKJV).

Virtue #4 – Godly Mama Bears Pray/Ask GOD for Children – 1 Sam.1:9-11 cf. Ps.127

  • “Then she [Hannah] made a vow & said, ‘O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant & remember me, & not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life…” (1 Sam.1:11 NKJV).

Virtue #5 – Godly Mama Bears Love & Cherish Their Children – 1 Thes.2:7; Titus 2:4

  • “The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children” (Titus 2:3-4 NKJV).
  • “But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children” (1 Thes.2:7 NKJV).

Virtue #6 – Godly Mama Bears Invest Time in Their Children – 1 Tim.5:14; Titus 2:5

  • “Therefore I desire that the younger widows [women] marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully” (1 Tim.5:14 NKJV).
  • “The older women likewise…that they admonish the young women…to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed” (Titus 2:3, 5 NKJV).

Virtue #7 – Godly Mama Bears Teach Their Kids GOD’s Word – 2 Tim.3:15 cf. Deut.6

  • “And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim.3:15 NKJV).

This is What it Takes to Be a Godly Mama Bear…

Virtue #8 – Godly Mama Bears Pray/Intercede for Their Children – Matt.15:21-28

  • “And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cred out to Him, saying, ‘Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David!  My daughter is severely demon-possessed’” (Matt.15:22 NKJV).

This is What it Takes to Be a Godly Mama Bear…

Virtue #9 – Godly Mama Bears are Queens of Their Home – Ps.128:3 cf. Pr.14:1

  • “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table.  Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD” (Ps.128:3-4 NKJV).

This is What it Takes to Be a Godly Mama Bear…

Virtue #10 – Godly Mama Bears Launch Their Children for GOD – Gen.2:24; Eph.5:31

  • “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh” (Eph.5:31 NKJV cf. Gen.2:24).

Godly mama bears understand that every one of the children that Almighty God places in their families are like arrows to be launched into the world for the glory of God, the fortification of the church and family, and the advancement of civilization through human flourishing to the ends of the earth (Ps.127; 1 Tim.3:15; Gen.1:27-28).  Unfortunately, the failure for so many to launch is a matter of dead serious urgency that many Christian leaders recognize and are sounding the alarm like it’s a 5-alarm fire.  Dr. Al Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky explained recently on “The Briefing”:

And so part of the responsibility of Christian parents, even a responsibility of the Christian church and a responsibility of Christian leaders is to help more young men be ready for marriage, be ready to be husbands, be ready to be fathers unapologetically, to be able to grown up on time, and put away the video games, and put away the toys, and put away the laziness, and get busy and show up as a young man some young woman is going to want to marry, and some young man who’s going to be able to fulfill the responsibilities of being a husband.”

And we also have to address the identity crisis, which is a moral crisis or a spiritual crisis among many young women who are looking for the wrong attainments in life, are looking for the wrong life goals [Career over marriage & motherhood as featured in The Wall Street Journal this spring], and quite honestly need to be confronted with that.  That is not why they were made for the glory of God.  That is not God’s intention.  God’s intention, we know is found in creation order and in our identity in Christ.”[2]

Everywhere in Holy Scripture, God’s Word extols the beautiful virtue, prestigious honor, and powerful nobility of biblical womanhood: namely, what it means to be a woman, wife, and mother (& grandmother).

Remember how Jennifer McBride said that “In past generations, the role of wife & mother was viewed as a sacred calling.”  Here are a few examples of that:

“You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, training them up in God’s fear, minding the house, and making your household a church for God as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.” – Charles Haddon Spurgeon (19th century)

“The homemaker has the ultimate career.  All other careers exist for one purpose only – and that is to support the ultimate career.” – C.S. Lewis (mid-20th century)

“No work anywhere is more important than caring for children and doing other domestic duties which keep the homefires burning. This work naturally falls to the women and can best be done by them. It is a sacred responsibility. Only when…women willingly assume the responsibilities they were born to do, when they devote themselves to making a success of them and lose themselves in this great responsibility, forgetting about their own selfish desires, will they find happiness and will we have a better world.”[3]Aubrey Andelin, “Man of Steel & Velvet” (1972)

This Mother’s Day is indeed a capital opportunity to ask the LORD of Hosts to ignite a zeal, by His Spirit, in the hearts of a multitude of women to take their stand as “Godly Mama Bears.”  By the grace of GOD, may they do what it takes to champion these biblical virtues (alongside their husbands) for the sake of future generations to the praise of GOD’s glory in Christ Jesus.
