“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 NKJV
Congratulations on completing your high school education! Your academics have been instrumental in shaping you and your future. Considering the trajectory of your life, remember that one day you will stand before the Almighty Creator God of the Bible and give an account of your life. Faithfully invest your time, treasure, and talent so that your life resounds to the praise of God’s glory at that day and throughout eternity. DON’T WASTE YOUR LIFE!
The sands of time sifting through the hourglass of the days of our lives remind us that life is short (Ps.90:1-12; Ecc.12:1-8; Jam.4:13-15). Every day is an opportunity to invest in the two things that will endure forever: people and truth. Cultivate healthy relationships by blessing and encouraging people in your life. Grow in wisdom and understanding of truth beginning with a reverential fear of God who gives life, breath, and all things. His Word of Truth, the Bible, is what the souls of every man, woman, boy, and girl among all nations worldwide needs. This is reality for everyone whether engulfed in spiritual darkness or born again into spiritual life by grace through faith alone in Christ who bore the wrath deserved by rebel sinners and rose again in triumph over sin and death and the demonic forces of evil. In light of this, use time wisely and resist the temptation to fritter it away by indulging in ungodly pleasure, worldly entertainment, and other selfish desires of youth. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME!
Financial wealth is the greatest aspiration of many like you that stand on the threshold of opportunity (Ecc.12:13-14; Matt.6:19-21; 1 Tim.6:6-10, 17). History is full of those who were successful but unsatisfied in heart and soul. Prosperity cannot deliver lasting fulfillment because it cannot provide something that it does not have to give. The only way one can find the meaning, purpose, and transcendent cause of life that our heart craves is through a relationship with Christ. The goodness of God’s blessings are for the purpose of providing for the needs of your future family, being generous to the legitimately poor and needy, and for advancing the light of the gospel of Christ worldwide. DON’T WASTE YOUR TREASURE!
All your gifts, talents, and abilities are from the good hand of Almighty God (Pr.3:34; Dan.4:28-37). Be humbled before Him and resist the temptation of your sinful heart in thinking that by your own doing you will make your own way through life. Thank God for your blessings and use them in His service for His glory not your own. Everything that we have as been entrusted to us as a stewardship responsibility for which we will give an account of before God one day. DON’T WASTE YOUR TALENT!
Congratulations are certainly due, but may you also prayerfully consider that there is coming a day when your life will flash before your eyes and you will give an account before God. He will judge you on the basis of whether or not you were saved from the penalty of your sins in hell by trusting Christ as Savior. Your life will also be judged on how faithfully you invested your time, treasure, and talent in eternity. Will your heart be filled with regret or praise to God’s glory? Please take stock of your life today and therefore take heed to yourself before God before it’s too late. DON’T WASTE YOUR LIFE!
“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come…” Ecclesiastes 12:1a NKJV
