On July 4, 1776, the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence penned their names to a document that was a direct assault on the authority of the king of England. It was therefore an act of rebellion against the authority over them as American colonists. They pledged to one another their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor because they believed that the truth that God created men equal and that He gave them the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are things worth standing, fighting, and, if necessary, dying for. As United States citizens, we have benefited from their courageous stand for freedom against the tyranny and wicked rule of the king of England.
For You He Died…The Almighty God of the Bible is the Holy Creator of the universe & Righteous King of history. He created people to honor and worship Him through a relationship with Himself. Everyone is a guilty sinner who has rebelled against God’s righteous rule and has been plunged into slavery to sin and death. We therefore deserve His undiluted wrath and judgment to explode upon us in full measure. Sinners justly deserve banishment from the presence of God in the darkness and horror of eternal hell. “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15 NKJV). Out of immense love, God Himself came into this sin-cursed world of darkness to rescue sinners from sin, death, and the Devil.
Jesus Christ, the God-Man, is the ultimate sacrifice and paid the supreme price by shedding His royal blood at the cross of Calvary to free sinners from the shackles of sin and death. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 NKJV).
For You He Lives…Christ rose from the dead and is alive right now! He destroyed death and today He offers everyone total forgiveness of sins and eternal spiritual life. This free gift is received by anyone who repents of their sins and trusts in Christ as Lord and Savior. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV).
Will You Sign? When the signers of the Declaration of Independence penned their names to that historic document they were declaring the resolve of their convictions. In similar fashion, we cannot lay claim to spiritual freedom from the tyranny of sin and death until we pen our names to the gospel. We must place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ by believing in our hearts that He is the God-Man who died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31 NKJV).
Is there anything keeping you from trusting Christ as your Savior right now? If not, please thank God from the bottom of your heart today and enjoy the greatest 4th of July ever!
